2027 Kitchen & Bath Color Trends for Michigan Homes
If you’re keeping your oak floors, white quartz or an existing tub, start there. These eight 2027 Colors of the Year offer three very different greens, two smoky blues and three earthy shades for Michigan kitchens and bathrooms.

BehrGrounded
T27-01
Grounded is the darkest of the three greens in this guide. Behr describes it as an olive with moss and brown in the mix. If you’re keeping honey-oak floors, lay a cabinet sample across two boards so you can see the green beside both the grain and the amber finish.
Try Grounded on the lower cabinets beneath a pale quartz counter. Then stand in the doorway after dinner and look at the cabinet under the sink. If the door detail disappears in shadow, use the olive on a shorter run or an island where light reaches the front.
Dunn-EdwardsFrench Press Coffee
DEBN07
French Press Coffee is an espresso brown with a trace of plum. That undertone makes the counter choice interesting. Put the chip beside a piece of creamy quartz, then beside stone with violet-gray veins. The same brown can tie one surface into the room and make the other look surprisingly pink.
A coffee station is a good place to try it. Carry the brown onto the cabinet frame as well as the doors, use a light worktop, and hold an actual brass pull against the sample. From across the kitchen, that small stretch of cabinetry will read as one piece of furniture.
PPGCountry Soil
PPG15-30
PPG chose Country Soil, also called Roasted Chestnut, for its 2027 industrial coatings forecast. It falls between beige, taupe and brown. For a bathroom remodel, use the forecast as a color reference, then ask your paint supplier for a product suited to the surface you’re painting.
This is the one I’d sample if a stone-look shower tile has both gray and tan in it. Hold the paint board at the outside corner of the shower, where tile, grout and painted wall actually meet. If all three blend together more than you like, try a white vanity top to give the sink a clearer outline.
ValsparCottage Door
8004-38E / V138-4
Cottage Door is a muted blue-gray. If your kitchen opens into a room with natural oak trim, try it on the pantry door first. You’ll see both finishes together every time you walk through, and you can decide whether to carry the blue across the lower cabinets.
Set the sample beside your backsplash and a cabinet pull. A blue-gray that looks quiet on the chip can look much bluer against a creamy tile. When ordering samples, use 8004-38E at Lowe’s or V138-4 at an independent Valspar retailer.
GliddenArtifact
COL10-16 / PPG10-16
Glidden calls Artifact an aqua. Beside white porcelain it reads as a smoky blue-green, making it a useful choice when the tub or sink you plan to keep is bright white. If Cottage Door also caught your eye, compare both chips against the porcelain in your own bathroom.
Try Artifact on the paneling below a chair rail and keep the upper wall warm white. In a small bath, you can judge the effect with one sample board placed low on the wall. Check it from the hall with the vanity light on, then again with daylight coming through the door.
C2 PaintPueblo
C2-510
Pueblo is an earthy mauve. C2 describes a rosy, almost berry cast in daylight and a warmer brown as the light fades. That shift makes it a good candidate for a powder room with a small window, especially if you’re keeping an oak vanity or a cream stone top.
Paint two sample boards and stand them on adjacent walls. Leave one near the window and one beside the mirror. In the evening, switch on the fixture you use to get ready. A shade that looks just right from the doorway also needs to feel right at the mirror.
Sherwin-WilliamsCelery
SW 6421
Celery is the lightest green in this group. Sherwin-Williams describes a soft herbal green with a hint of yellow. If you like the idea of a green kitchen but want to keep your white cabinets, try Celery on the breakfast nook walls, where you can see it alongside the trim.
Put the paint board near the window in the morning, then move it under the lights you use at dinner. Watch the yellow undertone against your cabinet white. If you like it in both spots, carry the wall color through the kitchen and let the oak table supply the warmer wood tone.
Benjamin MooreWebster Green
HC-130
Webster Green is a midtone green. If Grounded looks too dark in your kitchen and Celery feels too pale, this is the one to put between them on your sample board. Benjamin Moore features it on built-ins and trim. An island end panel gives you a similarly broad surface to work with.
Try the green below the countertop with warm white perimeter cabinets and an oak stool. Put your sample on the side that faces the next room. That’s often the view you’ll see from the dining table, and it can look quite different from the same paint directly under a pendant.
What a Dimondale kitchen can teach you about color
In our Dimondale remodel, the homeowners paired dark gray Shaker cabinets with a white quartz island and wood-look flooring. Look at the island end in the photo. It reads darker than the cabinet beside the window, even though both belong to the same kitchen.
That’s why I’d take an olive or green cabinet sample to both spots before ordering doors. See the Dimondale before-and-after photos.
How to test your two finalists at home
- Gather the finishes you’re keeping. Put the cabinet door, counter sample, tile and grout together. Include a floor sample or take everything to the room itself.
- Put the paint where it will go. Stand a painted board vertically against the cabinet or wall. For a vanity, set it directly under the lip of the countertop. Check the board once on its own and once alongside the other finalist.
- Use the room’s everyday light. Look on a gray Michigan afternoon, then again with the pendants or vanity lights on. Write down which color you prefer at each time and why.
- Approve a physical finish. For new cabinetry, request a finished door from the cabinet supplier. Record the color name, code, product and sheen with your other selections so the installer has the same reference you approved.
